EN.I.R.I.S.S.T. (Intelligent Research Infrastructure for Shipping, Supply chain, Transport and Logistics) (October 2019-today)

National project

EU H2020 funded project

EN.I.R.I.S.S.T. is funded by the Greek General Secretariat of Research and Technology in the context of the National Strategy for Research, Technological Development and Innovation (2014-2020) in the National Roadmap of Large Scale Research Infrastructures. The project aims at formulating a business intelligent platform in Shipping, Transport, Logistics and Supply chain management that will combine business analytics, visualization techniques and technology advanced knowledge, innovation processes, by offering high quality research services to users from different countries, including the peripheral and outermost regions of Europe.

HARMONY (Holistic Approach for Providing Spatial & Transport Planning Tools and Evidence to Metropolitan and Regional Authorities to Lead a Sustainable Transition to a New Mobility Era) (July 2019-today)

EU H2020 funded project

The HARMONY project envisages developing a new generation of harmonised spatial and multimodal transport planning tools which comprehensively model the dynamics of the changing transport sector and spatial organisation, enabling metropolitan area authorities to lead the transition to a low carbon new mobility era in a sustainable manner. Small-scale demonstrations with Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) and drones take place to understand in real-life their requirements and collect data to be used for modelling. The HARMONY model suite is also linked to the EC's EU-wide model TRIMODE to further identify the impact of the concepts and technologies on the TEN-T level. HARMONY's concepts and the model suite are applied and validated on six EU metropolitan areas on six TEN-T corridors: 1. Rotterdam (NL), 2. Oxfordshire (UK), 3. Turin (IT), 4. Athens (GR), 5. Trikala(GR), 6. Upper Silesian-Zaglebie Metropolis (PL).

MaaS4EU (End to End Approach for Mobility as a Service tools, business models, enabling framework and evidence for European seamless mobility) (December 2017-today)

EU H2020 funded project

MaaS4EU will provide quantifiable evidence, frameworks and tools to remove the barriers and enable a cooperative and interconnected EU single transport market for the MaaS concept, by addressing challenges under four pillars: 1. Business, 2. End-Users, 3. Technology, and 4. Policy.   The developed MaaS4EU solutions will be tested in real life to also quantify the impact of MaaS services on end-users’ short-term (activity patterns) and mid-term (car-ownership) travel choices, and on energy demand for transport. The case study areas are the Greater Manchester (UK), Luxembourg-Germany, and Budapest (Hungary).

OPTIMUM (Multi-source Big Data Fusion Driven Proactivity for Intelligent Mobility) (November 2016-August 2018)

EU H2020 funded project

The project aims to provide the required interoperability, adaptability and dynamicity in modern transport systems for a proactive and problem-free transportation system. OPTIMUM will establish a largely scalable, distributed architecture for the management and processing of multisource big-data enabling continuous monitoring of transportation systems needs and proposing proactive decisions and actions in an (semi-) automatic way.

TOSCA (Technology Opportunities and Strategies Toward Climate-Friendly Transport) (November2009-March 2011)

EU FP7-funded project

The main objective of TOSCA was to identify the most promising technology and fuel pathways that could help reduce transport related Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through 2050. TOSCA assessed the technical feasibility, economic affordability, and social acceptability of technology policies that would lead toward a lower climate-impact transport system within the EU under different scenario conditions. The project covered (1) a techno-economic assessment of major transport modes (automobiles, buses, trucks, aircraft and railways) and of alternative transportation fuels for reducing GHG emissions; (2) an integration of these technologies in scenarios of European transportation futures; and (3) an estimate of the penetration of future low-GHG emission technologies and fuels for promising policies under the different scenario conditions, along with an assessment of the societal implications of these policies.

TOSCA was featured as a research 'Success Story' in the report by the EC's Transport Research and Innovation Portal (TRIP), "Towards Low-Carbon Transport in Europe", 2012
